Dodge Stratus

The Dodge Stratus was introduced in 1995 as the middle entry in the JA platform, slotting between the higher-end Cirrus and the lower-end Breeze. It arrived with two models - SE, equipped with the 2.0 L straight-4 while the ES was outfitted with the DOHC 2.4 L engine, with the optional 2.5 L V6 engine as an option. The battery is in a rather unique position, located forward of the left fender and requires the tire to be removed for replacement. The Stratus was praised upon its release, receiving favorable reviews against the likes of the Chevrolet Malibu and Ford Contour, and it was believed to be roomier than the latter. Chrysler's K-platform had been their main midsize offerings at the time, and the larger LH and LX platforms would later compete directly with the Ford Taurus, Honda Accord, and Chevrolet Impala. The exteriors of the three models had many similar parts, with the main difference coming from the front fascia, rear bumper, taillights, and wheels. The interiors, meanwhile, held more features that varied from the three models. All variants had a range of standard features and options such as four-speed automatic transmission, anti-lock brakes, tilt steering wheel, and a six-CD changer, as well as a five-speed manual for the 2.0 L engine. However, the Stratus lacked features such as navigation and automatic temperature control found in higher end models. In Mexico, a turbocharged Stratus was available with the 2.4 L DOHC 4-cylinder engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick, offering 168 hp (125 kW) at 5200 rpm and 216 ft·lbf of torque at 2200 rpm. In Europe, the car was sold as the Chrysler Stratus, with the same engine options as US models.
