Dodge Viper GTS-R

Team Viper engineers managed to extract an impressive 700 hp from the already powerful second generation 8.0 L V10 engine, using production block and cylinder head parts. The chassis was redeveloped by British sportscar manufacturer Reynard Motorsport's Special Projects Division, using lightweight carbon fibre components rather than fibreglass and heavy tubular steel from the road car. The Viper GTS-R's competition debut was in 1996, when Canaska Racing entered the car in the 24 Hours of Daytona. The next year, their services were switched to Oreca for the FIA GT Championship, which saw the Viper GTS-R win five titles between 1997 and 2002. As well as its successes on the track, 100 street versions of the GTS-R were produced withrating 460 hp (343 kW) and 500 ft·lbf (67 N·m) of torque. In 1998, Team Viper returned to Le Mans to set new track records in practice, and became the first American car to win at Le Mans in three decades, as well as the first production-based American car to claim the winner's circle.
