Dodge Viper ACR

The 1996 Dodge Viper RT/10 was the beginning of the second generation and is sometimes referred to as "Generation 1.5" since many of the generation one parts carried over. It featured an updated rear exhaust system, with a single muffler at the back exiting via two large central tail pipes, reportedly giving an increase in horsepower to 415bhp and an increase in torque to 488 lb·ft (662 N·m). This model was also the first to have a removable hardtop, as well as a sliding glass window. Some steel suspension components were changed out for aluminum, reducing the weight by 60 lbs (27kg). Later in the model year, the GTS emerged; a coupe version of the Viper. With more than 90% of components being updated, the GTS was equipped with an 8.0 liter 450hp V-10 engine, airbags, and air conditioning, power windows and door locks. This model was selected to be the Pace Car for the Indy 500. For 1997 and 1998, the RT/10 was also updated with the GTS engine, airbags, and power windows, while the 1998 model featured modified exhaust manifolds to save 24lbs, as well as a revised camshaft.
