Dodge Viper GT2

The 1996 model year marked the beginning of the second generation Dodge Viper GT2, but in the Viper community, it is sometimes referred to as generation 1.5, as it saw the carryover of many generation 1 parts while transitioning to generation 2 parts. Along with the 8.0 liter V-10 engine, the roadster included an updated exhaust system, with a single muffler at the rear and two large central tail pipes. This was said to increase the horsepower to 415 bhp (309 kW; 421 PS) and torque to 488 lb·ft (662 N·m). Other features included a removable hardtop, sliding glass window, aluminum suspension components, and a weight reduction of 60 lbs. Dodge also released the GTS, a new coupe version of the Viper, in the same model year. Dubbed the "double bubble", the roof featured slightly raised sections and was the first Viper to be equipped with airbags, air conditioning, and power windows and door locks. Not to mention, the 1996 Viper GTS was chosen as the pace car for the Indianapolis 500. In 1997 and 1998, minor updates were made to the Viper, such as the RT/10 receiving the 450HP GTS engine, second-generation airbags, revised exhaust manifolds, and a revised camshaft.
