Dodge Viper GTS Coupe

For the 1996 model year, the Dodge Viper RT/10 saw carryovers of many generation 1 parts, while transitioning to generation 2 parts with the relocation of exposed side exhaust pipes to a single muffler at the rear and two large central tail pipes. This change improved the horsepower to 415 bhp (309 kW; 421 PS) and an increase in torque of 23 lb·ft (31 N·m) to 488 lb·ft (662 N·m). Additionally, the Viper received a removable hardtop and a sliding glass window. There were also some weight reductions with steel suspension parts being replaced by aluminum. The 96 model year also saw the presentation of the Viper GTS Coupe, dubbed the "double bubble" due to its slightly raised roof sections that would accommodate the usage of helmets. The majority of the components in the GTS were new when compared to the RT/10. The GTS was host to a 8.0 liter V-10 engine, airbags, air conditioning, power windows, and power door locks, all at 450 hp (336 kW). Furthermore, the 1996 Viper GTS was selected as the pace car for the Indianapolis 500. From 1997 to 1999, the Viper received minor updates. 1997 saw the RT/10 gain the advantages of the GTS with a 450HP engine and airbags and power windows. 1998 Vipers saw second-generation airbags, revised exhaust manifolds, and a revised camshaft.
