Dodge Viper RT10 Roadster

For the 1996 model year, the Viper RT/10 saw the carryover of many generation 1 parts while transitioning to generation 2 parts. At the same time, the roadster's side exhaust pipes were relocated to a single muffler at the rear, exiting through two large central tail pipes. According to Dodge, this caused a rise in bhp to 415 (309 kW; 421 PS), with torque increasing by 23 lb·ft (31 N·m) to 488 lb·ft (662 N·m). Additionally, a removable hardtop complete with sliding window was made available and several steel suspension components were replaced with aluminum, resulting in a 60 lb (27 kg) weight reduction. In the same year, Dodge rolled out the GTS, a new two-seater version of the Viper. The roof featured a distinctive 'double bubble' styling to accommodate helmet wearers, taking inspiration from the Shelby Daytona designed by Pete Brock. The GTS held the 8.0 liter V-10 engine but with an increase in power to 450 hp (336 kW) and came equipped with airbags, air conditioning, power windows and door locks. The GTS was also chosen as the pace car for the 1996 Indianapolis 500. During 1997-1998, the RT/10 also received GTS upgrades, being equipped with air-bags and power windows and revised exhaust manifolds, camshaft and air bags respectively.
