Dodge Viper SRT10

In 2002, the Dodge Viper was revamped by the engineering team at DaimlerChrysler's Street and Racing Technology group. The Viper SRT-10 model succeeded the GTS and the RT/10 models, and featured a restyled exterior with sharper angles and curves. In addition to an upgraded design, the engine was also amended to an 8.3 L (506.5 cu in) displacement that produced a Freight Lading Power (FLP) of 500 bhp (370 kW) and 525 lb·ft (712 N·m) of torque. To support the escalating power, the motor was reduced to 500 lb (230 kg). The chassis also improved, becoming more rigid and lighter at a weight of 80 lb (36 kg) in comparison to the previous Viper model. However, plans to produce an even lighter and stronger chassis were abandoned due to the cost. Consequently, only a convertible was produced. The 2004 Viper previewed the Mamba edition with black interiors, red stitching and trim; this package increased the price by $3000. Ultimately, 200 Mambas were produced. The Viper SRT-10 Coupe was revealed at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show and released as a 2006 model. The Coupe echoed similar body panels as the convertible model, basing its side and rear styling from the Competition Coupe. Similarly, its "double-bubble" roof design and tail lights were inspired by the original GTS Viper. The engine FLP measured 510 bhp (380 kW) and 535 lb·ft (725 N·m); the power increased but the weight of the chassis did not, thus the Coupe's acceleration rate was slightly reduced from the convertible. The Coupe, however, ruled the market in handling and high-speed performance due to its stiffer frame, reduced drag, and increased downforce. As a result of updating the 2008 model, the 2007 Vipers were replaced by an extended production of the 2006 model.
