In 2002, the Dodge Viper received a full redesign from DaimlerChrysler's Street and Racing Technology group. With the introduction of the SRT-10, the old GTS and RT/10 models were scrapped. Bold and angular styling was added to the vehicle, as well as an improved 8.3 L (506.5 cu in) engine with 500 bhp (370 kW) and 525 lb·ft (712 N·m) of torque. The structure of the vehicle was also upgraded, becoming more rigid and lighter by about 80 lb (36 kg) than its predecessor. In 2004, Dodge unveiled the limited-edition Mamba package, featuring black interiors, red stitching and trim, and an increase in MSRP of $3000. Just 200 Mamba models were released. The Viper SRT-10 Coupe debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in 2005, and subsequent models shared many similarities with the convertible except for the sleek, Competition Coupe-inspired side and rear styling. The initial cars were built with the GTS' original double-bubble roof design and Blue with white stripes paint scheme. Adding to the look was a slightly more powerful engine, now SAE-certified at 510 bhp (380 kW) and 535 lb·ft (725 N·m). The chassis of the coupe was not modified, however, making the vehicle heavier than the convertible, yet it featured improved handling and high-speed performance due to the car's stiffer frame, lower drag, and increased downforce. Unfortunately, no 2007 Vipers were produced, as Chrysler extended the production of the 2006 model while preparing the updated 2008 model.
