Ferrari 458 Italia Grand Am

The Ferrari 458 Italia Grand Am has been designed and built to meet the demands of the American championship in which it will be competing in the 2012 season. Its power output has been reduced to 500 hp compared with the European version and it has less aerodynamic efficiency. It is also fitted with a 48 mm restrictor, whilst being limited to 8000 rpm. Modifications have been made to the braking system to conform to race regulations, with the absence of ABS as well as traction control. The roll-over bar increases safety during collisions and Continental tyres provide extra grip with a hard compound.

On 26 and 27 July 2011, the 458 Italia Grand Am was tested at Daytona International Speedway in Florida with the tried and tested duo of Jaime Melo and Toni Vilander taking turns at the wheel. The car completed a good number of laps, 45 to be precise, in the hands of Maurizio Mediani and Jaime Melo, with no issues.

Ferrari has been involved in the Daytona 24 Hour race for many years and it is a success story that is etched in racing history. The company has taken part in 47 races, winning five outright, plus 15 class wins. In 1967, Ferrari achieved a remarkable feat by claiming a triple victory, with a podium of Ferrari 330 P4s and a 412 N.A.R.T. making history. Furthermore, in 1962, Phil Hill and Ricardo Rodriguez won in a Dino 246 SP, and four Ferraris finished within the top ten that year. In 1972, Mario Andretti and Jacky Ickx won in a 312 PB.
