Ferrari 488 Challenge
The 2016 Ferrari World Finals event in Daytona saw the unveiling of the brand new Ferrari 488 Challenge, the sixth model to take part in the prestigious one-make series. Having celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2017, the Ferrari Challenge has seen over 1000 races and 1000 drivers vying for victory in events across three continents. The series has provided a platform for drivers to compete in international GT and prototype championships, with many going on to win in Grand-Am, IMSA, the FIA World Endurance Championship and even the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Powered by the 670 cv 3.9-litre V8 turbocharged engine, the 488 Challenge is the most powerful model to ever compete in the series, and won the overall 2016 International Engine of the Year Award. Refinements to the engine, aerodynamics and chassis have allowed the Challenge to reach its highest levels of performance yet, breaking the Fiorano circuit lap record with a time of 1'15.5". Compared to the production 488 GTB V8, the Challenge features specific engine mapping and shorter gear ratios, a modified torque management system to improve acceleration, and an optimised racing shift strategy to reach maximum revs in 4th gear in 6 seconds. Weight has been reduced across the powertrain, as well.
