The creation of limited-series specials like the LaFerrari allows Ferrari to investigate and utilize the technological solutions that may later appear on their regular production models. Of particular note is the incorporation of the hybrid system which incorporated the F1 technology, KERS, to generate maximum performance and lower emissions. Treating the environment in a sustainable manner is something Ferrari aims to achieve - LaFerrari discharges 330 g/km of C02 but, if desired, in certain future applications of this hybrid system, it is capable of achieving just 220 g/km on the combined cycle when driven solely on electric power.
