Fiat 1100 E

The Fiat 1100 was a widely-produced car manufactured by the Italian automaker Fiat, from 1937 to 1969. It was initially introduced as an updated version of the 508 "Balilla" (its real name being the 508C). With its distinctive late-30s' heart-shaped front grille and the chassis of its bigger siblings, the 1936 Fiat 500 "Topolino" and the larger 1500, the Fiat 1100 featured an efficient 1089 cc four cylinder, overhead valve, engine. It was offered with a four speed gearbox to power the rear wheels. During its run, it underwent a partial restyling around the front end with streamlined window-shaped louvres, and was renamed the 1100B. Post-World War II, a curvy trunk was added to the design along with a new moniker, the 1100E. The 508C and the 1100B were also available in the form of a 508L with a longer wheelbase, mainly used for vans and taxis. Furthermore, the model was completely redesigned in 1953 as a four-door compact sedan. Its modern monocoque bodywork comprises integrated front lights and offered two versions - "economica" and "normale". It also came with a sportier version, the 1100TV with three grille-mounted light, and a station-wagon model, with a fifth door. Between 1956 and 1960, there were minor styling alterations to the body of the car, such as newly designed grille, dual color dressing, and later, small fintails with spear-shaped backlights. There was a special edition of the car called the 1100 Granluce that boasted wider windows and a more powerful 1200 cc engine (as an optional extra). In 1962, as a result of the introduction of the groundbreaking 124 model, the Fiat 1100 received further styling changes, and the third generation of the car, the 1100D, was born. This four-door runabout featured smoother sides and a new rectangular mouth in addition to the exterior changes of the Granluce. It gained immense popularity in Italy, particularly in its station-wagon version, and survived until 1966. The last model of the Fiat 1100 came to be known as the 1100R (which stood for Redesigned), and featured a longer, straighter and slimmer line, complete with a newly-designed front-end and a square back. Its existence was cut short with the introduction of the Fiat 128 in 1969. Additionally, the 1100D is popularly known as the Premier Padmini in India.
