Fiat 1100 R Station Wagon

The classic Fiat 1100 was produced from 1937 to 1969 by the renowned Italian car maker. Initially known as the 508C, it was similar in appearance to the 1936 Fiat 500 "Topolino" and the larger 1500 models. The 1100 boasted a 1089 cc four cylinder, overhead valve, engine, which provided power to the rear wheels. In 1949, the car underwent light cosmetic modifications and was re-branded the 1100E. Two versions were available, the "economica" and "normale", while distinctive "streamlined window-shaped louvres" were a signature aspect of the vehicle's exterior. In 1953, the model was entirely redesigned to create an all-new four-door sedan, known as the 1100/103. Included in this update were integrated front lights and a curvier rear. The 1100TV was a sporty option, featuring a third light in the middle of the grille, while a fifth door formed the sleek station wagon model. This third generation of the 1100 was rebranded the 1100D in 1962. It boasted a modern monocoque bodywork, sober yet comfortable interiors, and as an optional feature, a new powerful 1200 cc engine. 1966 saw the introduction of the fourth generation of the classic Fiat 1100 - the 1100R. With a distinctive straight line, square back and styling similar to that of the Fiat 124, the 1100R became the March's most popular model until its eventual retirement in 1969. In India, the Fiat 1100D is still fondly referred to as the 'Premier Padmini'.
