Fiat 128 Rally

The Fiat 128 was a small family car manufactured by the Italian manufacturer Fiat from 1969 to 1985. It offered advanced engineering and design, featuring front-wheel drive with a transverse-mounted engine, and unequal length drive shafts. The 128 was voted European Car of the Year for 1970, and ranked highly in comparison tests conducted by various magazines. Following its release, the 128 was found to be a "driver's car" due its handling and brakes. Moreover, it had an innovative all-new Fiat SOHC engine, an aluminium alloy cylinder head with a direct overhead camshaft driven by a rubber toothed belt. Initially, there were two body styles, a two door sedan, four door sedan or station wagon, before the introduction of the three-door 128 3P in 1971 and 128 Special in 1972. The range was then overhauled in 1976 with a range of exterior and interior changes. Production of all models ceased in 1979, except for the base 1100cc-powered model, with production finally ceasing in 1985. The 128 running gear and engine was adapted for the Fiat X1/9 sports car. The 128 formed the basis of the Zastava Skala range of cars, produced by the Zastava company in Serbia until very recently.
