Fiat 131 Abarth Rally

The Fiat 131 is a mid-size family car that was made by the Italian manufacturer Fiat from 1974 to 1984. It was the successor to the Fiat 125, and was available as a 2-door and 4-door saloon, as well as a 5-door estate. Standard 131s were usually labeled as Mirafiori, after the production plant in which they were built. Models featured 1.3 L and 1.6 L SOHC engines, with an upgrade in 1981 until manufacturing ended in 1984. Fiat also launched a modified version called Supermirafiori that contained DOHC engines, plus Diesel and 131 Racing options.

The Fiat 131 Abarth Rally made waves in the motorsport community, securing three World Rally Championship titles in 1977, 1978, and 1980 (with Walter Röhrl as driver).

Model range

By the early 1980s, the Fiat 131 was sold in the following models: Mirafiori (1.3 and 1.6 L engines), Supermirafiori (1.3, 1.6, and 2.0 L twin-cam engines with upgraded interiors), Diesel (2.0 and 2.5 L engines) and Supercharged (2.0 L engines).

The Spanish twin

Until 1982, SEAT cars, manufactured in Spain, were all virtually identical to their Fiat 131 counterparts. They were sold and produced as SEAT 131s, with only 4-door bodies available. However, SEAT factories also manufactured the estate version (known as 131 Panorama) for export, but which were branded with Fiat emblems.

The Turkish twin

Tofas industries in Turkey also based production on Fiat 131s, with Fiat-licensed models such as the Murat, Dogan and Kartal (estate). These cars had a long production run and were later replaced by newer Fiat models.
