Fiat 131 Racing

The Fiat 131 is a medium family car that was produced by the Italian manufacturer Fiat between 1974 and 1984. It succeeded the Fiat 125 and was available in a 2-door saloon, 4-door saloon, and 5-door estate. Standard 131s bore the Mirafiori badge, named after the factory in which it was produced, and ran on 1.3L and 1.6L SOHC engines. In 1981, a few revisions were made to the model before its production finally ended in 1984.

Also in 1978, Fiat released the Supermirafiori variant featuring DOHC engines with either 1.3L, 1.6L, and 2.0L capacities. Diesel options for the 131 were the 2.0L Mirafiori and 2.5L Supermirafiori. And in addition to that, an availabe supercharged 2.0L variant could also be had.

The Fiat 131 Abarth made its mark on the rally circuit between 1977 and 1980, dominating with 3 consecutive World Rally Championship titles- the last one with Walter Röhrl as driver.

Model range

By the early 1980s, the Fiat 131 was on offer with a variety of models: the Mirafiori with engines ranging from 1.3L to 1.6L; the Supermirafiori with engines from 1.3L to 2.0L; diesel options in 2.0L (Mirafiori) and 2.5L (Supermirafiori); and the supercharged 2.0L variant.

The Spanish twin

The SEAT 131 was the Spanish twin of the Fiat 131 up until 1982. Although it was only produced in 4-door saloon, the SEAT factories exported several estate versions (called 131 Panorama) sporting Fiat emblems.

The Turkish twin

The Fiat 131 proved popular around the world. In Turkey, Tofas industries adopted the model and used it as the basis for their Murat, Dogan, and Kartal (estate) vehicles. Successors to the 131s were later made available in Turkey.
