Fiat 850 Special

The Fiat 850 was produced between 1964 and 1973 and was a small rear-engined rear wheel drive car in the same vein as the Renault Dauphine. It evolved from the Fiat 600, which had technical components known as 'Project 100', while the Fiat 850 was codenamed '100G'. It featured an 843 cm³ engine which produced 34 HP normally, or 37 HP if in 'super' mode, bringing its maximum speed to 125 km/h. It held a certain charm with its large rolling eyes and short tail, where the engine was placed. Three variants were produced: the 850 Sedan, the 850 Coupé, and the 850 Spider. The Coupé model was introduced in 1965 at the Geneva Motor Show, and featured a tuned 843 cm³ engine producing 47 HP, reaching a maximum speed of 135 km/h. At the same time the Spider was introduced, a two-seater convertible sports car with a 49 HP 843 cm³ engine allowing it to reach 145 km/h. It was designed by the design studio Bertone and was also constructed by them, and had a fabric roof which could be tucked away under a rear flap. The Sedan, Coupé, and Spider models were marketed in the United States with an 817 cm³ engine to meet emissions regulations.
