Fiat 850 Spider

The Fiat 850 was a small rear-engined rear wheel drive car in the tradition of the Renault Dauphine and produced between 1964 and 1973. Its technical design was an evolution of the very successful Fiat 600 and thus was given the internal Fiat codename of "Project 100G". It came in two versions, "normale" and "super", both using an 843 cm³ engine to reach speeds up to 125 km/h. Overview The 850 family included several body styles with similar technical components beneath them, all derived from the 600 Multipla. These bodies included a sedan, coupé, and spider. The coupé and spider were both launched at the 1965 Geneva Motor Show with the original 843 cm³ engine, with the coupé delivering 47 HP and the spider offering 49 HP. This allowed them to reach respective top speeds of 135 km/h and 145 km/h. The Spider was designed by the Bertone design studio and completely built by them. It also included a fabric folding roof section that could be stowed away under a rear flap. Note: The Sedan, Coupé, and Spider were marketed in the United States at that time with a reduced capacity 817 cm³ engine, in order to meet emissions regulations.
