Fiat Croma 2005 posters

Fiat Croma

In 2005, Fiat made a comeback with the Croma, a large hatchback with an upright tailgate. It was styled by Giugiaro while the chassis parts and components were provided by a short-lived partnership with General Motors, sharing components with the Opel Vectra, Saab 9000, Lancia Thema and the Alfa Romeo 164. It hit the market in Italy in June 2005. Acknowledging the car's lack of prestige in the upper market, Fiat opted not to develop a sedan model, and instead chose to concentrate on a vehicle that crossed between an estate and a large MPV, demonstrated by its 160 cm roof height. The car is made in Fiat's Cassino factory, and is offered in three trim levels and five engine options. Petrol engine models were supplied by Opel, offering an Ecotec 1.8 L with 140 PS (103 kW), followed by a 2.2 L with 147 PS (108 kW). The most popular option however is the Fiat MultiJet diesel engine, with 120 PS (88 kW) from its 1.9 L 8 valve model, 150 PS (110 kW) from its 1.9 L 16 valve, and the most powerful being the five-cylinder 2.4 L with 200 PS (147 kW). The engine is combined with a standard six-speed manual gearbox. The Fiat Croma has a five-star rating on the EuroNCAP for safety, as it is manufactured with nine airbags including a knee bag for the driver, anti-lock braking system and electronic brakeforce distribution as standard.
