Fiat Dino Spider 1969 posters

Fiat Dino Spider

The Fiat Dino is a front-engined, rear-wheel drive sports car manufactured between 1967 and 1973. It was created as an intermediate step towards Ferrari's production of the "true" Dino, and the two are often confused. Fiat's Dino was created to enable Ferrari to meet the necessary production standards in order to homologate the V6 engine for Formula 2 racing. Subsequently, Ferrari released their own mid-engined Dino - the 206 and 246. The two body designs available for the Fiat Dino were a Pininfarina spider and a Bertone coupe. The first model offered a 2.0-liter V-6 engine producing 160 horsepower and was mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine was improved in 1969, increasing the displacement to 2.4 liters and power to 180 hp. Other features included a live rear axle with leaf springs and three Weber 40DCNF carburetors. It could accelerate to 60 mph in under 8 seconds. Owning a Fiat Dino is relatively affordable - pristine 1967 models may only cost around $16,000 in the United States in 2001. While not unreliable, they can be tricky to maintain due to the scarcity of parts and specialists knowledgeable about them. The Dino was not sold officially in the US, but many were imported and it was discontinued in 1973.
