The Fiat Panda 4x4 is a high-bodied car that takes design inspiration from mini MPVs and mini SUVs, with strikingly similar taillights to those of Volvo vehicles. This renowned model has earned the European Car of the Year award in 2004.
Not only can the Panda provide comfortable seating for four people through its split rear seats, but it is also impressively equipped. As of September 2005, all Pandas come with features such as stability control, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and a minimum of two front airbags. Furthermore, a convenient gear shift is located on the dashboard for an easier transition between gears.
In an effort to revitalize Fiat, the new Panda was especially anticipated and did not disappoint, selling 500,000 units by October 2005. Perhaps because of its great success in Italy - where over half of the Panda cars have been sold - it has been associated with the classic Fiat 500. Indeed, the 500,000th new Panda was a light blue Emotions version with a 1.3 litre diesel engine.
The Panda model is available with various editions. The Actual edition includes basic features such as black bumpers and no electric windows, as well as a full-size spare wheel. This model was released in January 2004. The Active, released in May of the same year, features body-coloured bumpers, electric windows and central door locking; along with these, buyers have the option to add a radio and climate control. Furthermore, since September 2005, ABS and the front passenger's airbag have been made standard in the Active model. The Active Plus edition is slightly better equipped than the Active, with a cassette/CD player as standard; however, production of this version ceased in December 2003.
