Fiat Panda Elettra

The Fiat Panda Elettra was a small, no-frills utility vehicle designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro in the 1980s. It had a basic, box-like styling, and was developed two years later in the design of the Uno. Under its hood, it had mechanical components taken from the Fiat 127, while for certain territories, the air-cooled 652 cc 2-cylinder engine from the Fiat 126 was also used. The rear suspension for the Panda utilized a dead axle on leaf springs. The interior had several features that enabled it to serve as a "utility car," such as the rear seats which could be folded flat into a bed, or folded up to form a bottle carrier. The front seats had removable covers and the agreement fabric dashboard could generally be taken out as well. Available with a full-length rollback canvas roof, the Panda became popular in rural Italy thanks to its four-wheel drive system, developed in 1983. This version, known as the Panda Super, featured the new Fiat corporate "five bars" insignia. For 1986, a major change to the Panda was implemented, involving the FIRE engine from the Uno and a new coil sprung rear axle. Visually, the lack of "quarterlight" windows associated this version as the Mark II. Although it saw success in the 1980s and early 1990s, the Panda eventually began to be phased out in 1996 across Europe, due to new safety regulations. The Brazilian market continued to produce the car until September 2003. Meanwhile, Spanish automaker SEAT also created a version of the Panda which they marketed as the SEAT Marbella from 1987 to 1998. Different from the 1986 Fiat Panda Mark II, this car had its front and rear facias redesigned, yet nevertheless was based off of Fiat's design.
