Fisker Karma

The 2010 Fisker Karma, the first production car from new American manufacturer Fisker Automotive, Inc., was officially unveiled at the 2009 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit at a starting price of $87,900 ($80,400 after US government tax credits). So far, more than 1,000 orders have been placed since the prototype first launched at the 2008 NAIAS. Delieveries of this four-door, four-seat luxury plug-in hybrid, boasting a fuel efficiency of 100 miles-per-gallon, are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2009 at Fisker Automotive Retail locations. Designed by Fisker Automotive CEO Henrik Fisker, the classic yet modern Fisker Karma is powered by Quantum Technologies' clean and powerful Q-DRIVE® plug-in hybrid powertrain system. The two 201hp electric motors are powered by an advanced lithium-ion technology battery pack, warranting a range of up to 50 miles without any gasoline. Additionally, a 260hp turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecotec® direct injection (D1) gasoline engine acts as a generator for extended engergy needs. "Q-DRIVE® provides the best combo of power, efficiency and low emissions," said Alan Niedzwiecki, CEO of Quantum Technologies. "More than 60 percent of America's 200 million drivers travel less than 50 miles per day, and with Q-DRIVE®, the Fisker Karma can do that without needing a drop of gas. Whatever the future brings from Fisker Automotive, this powertrain stands as a foundation for all their future models."
