Fisker Karma Prototype

Fisker Automotive, Inc., an American premium sports car company, revealed their first production vehicle, the Fisker Karma, at the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. This highly sought-after four-door plug-in hybrid premium sports sedan carries a starting price of $80,000. Production of the Karma is set to kick off in the 4th quarter of 2009, and the company is aiming for a yearly output of 15,000 vehicles. The initial 99 cars created from the assembly line will sport the same color and trim of the model presented at NAIAS and will bear a signature from CEO Henrik Fisker. In Hinduism and Buddhism, Karma is defined as the power instigated by one's good or bad deeds that decides their next life. The Fisker Karma provides drivers the chance to drive a car that is environment-friendly without sacrificing the sophistication of a luxury automobile. “Our aim in creating Fisker Automotive, Inc. was to come up with a selection of cars that are not only stylish and eco-friendly, but also practical,” said Fisker Automotive, Inc. CEO Henrik Fisker. “The Fisker Karma will have the potential to become a driving trend in the automotive world — efficiency without sacrificing pleasure.” The Karma is loaded with cutting-edge plug-in hybrid technology, termed Q DRIVE, which was designed exclusively for Fisker Automotive by Quantum Technologies. The car's Q DRIVE configuration has a small gasoline engine that powers the generator, which charges the lithium ion battery pack and delivers electricity to the electric motor and sends it to the rear wheels. Consumers can use this emission-free car for up to 50 miles per day if they charge it each night — possible sparing them from refueling the car for a whole year. This Q DRIVE technology is meant to be the foundation for all Fisker Automotive's future derivatives.
