Ford BA Fairlane G220 MkII

Ford updated its Fairlane line with the AU Series in February 1999, introducing its New Edge look, though the AU did not gain as much traction as the company had hoped, with rival Holden overtaking them in the sales for full-size cars. The AU Fairlane had some styling cues reminiscent of the Lincoln Town Car and was limited to six- and eight-cylinder Ghias, with a limited-edition Millennium Ghia offered in December 1999. Due to the lack of success of the new cars, Ford released revisions to the Falcon and Fairlane lines in July 2000, which included the 75th Anniversary Ghia in October. The Sportsman Ghia also returned in March 2001 and was available until the end of 2002. Ford launched their BA Series in July 2003, which were much closer to the Falcon in appearance, and even shared its taillights. The 5 litre engine was replaced with the larger 5.4L that was also used in the US, while the G220 (named for the 220 kW power output) took the place of the Sportsman, coming paired with the larger engine and a sequential automatic gearbox. The Fairlane Ghia continued as the base model.
