Ford BA Fairlane Ghia MkII

When Ford introduced its New Edge look to the Fairlane in February 1999, it was received with some success. However, there was not enough popularity for their EA169 series (known as the AU Series), which allowed Holden to outsell them in the full-size car division. The AU Fairlane had some styling cues from the Lincoln Town Car, mainly around the C-pillar. There were merely two options available: a six-cylinder Ghia and an eight-cylinder Ghia, plus a limited-edition Millennium Ghia in December 1999. In July of 2000, after the market's underwhelming response to the new cars, Ford brought certain revisions to the Falcon and Fairlane ranges. For the 2001 model year AU II models, some improvements were included, as well as another limited edition: the 75th Anniversary Ghia in October. The Sportsman Ghia was brought back in March 2001 and stayed in the lineup until the end of the 2002 model year. In July 2003, Ford launched the BA Series, with the Fairlane range designs revamped to resemble the Falcon. The 5 litre was replaced by the larger 5.4L, which was used in the US. To draw in younger buyers, the G220 (with a 220 kW power output) replaced the Sportsman, offering the larger engine only and a sequential automatic gearbox. The Fairlane Ghia continued to exist as the base model.
