Ford BA Falcon XR8
The Ford BA Falcon XR8 is the latest in Ford Australia's performance vehicles, featuring the Boss 260 V8 engine. Developed by Ford Performance Vehicles, this engine is unlike anything in the Ford world and is built here in Australia. David Flint, the Managing Director of Ford Performance Vehicles, announced that they have maintained and built upon the previous standard set by Tickford in order to provide a premium performance engine tailored to the needs of Australia.
This remarkable V8 engine is the first ever offered in an Australian model with quad overhead camshafts and 32 valves, exploring a new level of power and potential. To complement the engine, the Falcon XR8 boasts a special engine bay built specifically for the Boss engine, including a power bulge bonnet, increased ground clearance, and improved airflow.
The new Boss 260 engine is the modern equivalent of the legendary Boss 302 engine. Starting with a cast-iron block and a forged steel crankshaft, the engine adds Cobra R alloy cylinder heads and an alloy inlet manifold. This is capable of producing 260kW and 500Nm, compared to the original Boss 302 which produced 215kW and 290bhp at 5800rpm with a compression ratio of 10.5:1.
