Ford BA MkII Falcon Ute

The Ford BA Falcon was a full-size car produced by the Ford Motor Company of Australia from September 2002 to October 2005. It featured a substantial revision of the styling from its AU predecessor, along with a new independent rear suspension setup, upgraded engine and transmission, and interior and exterior design updates. In late 2004, Ford introduced a Mark II update with subtle changes, and it was later replaced with the BF. At two points, the BA Falcon's market share momentarily exceeded that of its main competitor, the Holden Commodore, but they never matched the record-breaking Ford EL Falcon. In 2002, Wheels magazine bestowed the BA with its Car of the Year award, the first time in 36 years that Ford had been presented with the award. It was also the recipient of four consecutive Australia's Best Cars awards across three years.

Development and Design

The BA model underwent 24,000 hours of engine and durability testing, and its anti-lock brakes and Electronic Stability Control were calibrated in Sweden and Australia. Its exterior design was led by design director Scott Strong, who left Ford Australia in 2001 and was succeeded by Simon Butterworth in this role. Ford aimed to give the BA a more European feel, with most aspects of its predecessor AU model's "New Edge" design being revised. The car's significant improvements included an integrated aerial behind the rear window, improved aerodynamics, and no radio reception interference from the car's engine.
