Ford C-MAX Energi
Ford will introduce two new hybrid vehicles in 2012, the C-MAX Hybrid and the C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid. Both are expected to set a new standard for fuel efficiency. The C-MAX Energi in particular is anticipated to provide an even better electric mode fuel economy than the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid, as well as a longer overall driving range of 500 miles compared to the Chevrolet Volt. In addition, the new C-MAX Hybrid is projected to be more fuel efficient than the Toyota Prius v.
What sets the C-MAX hybrids apart is Ford's next generation of powersplit technology, which will allow for electric mode driving at higher speeds than any other hybrid. Sherif Marakby, Ford's director of Electrification Programs and Engineering, said, "…it combines the dynamics and quality of a traditional car with the versatility of a MAV and leading fuel efficiency that you cannot even get from Toyota." As part of Ford's commitment to offering fuel-efficient choices, one-third of the vehicles in the company's lineup in 2012 will offer 40 mpg or more.
