Ford Cougar
The Cougar was Ford's attempt to reintroduce a mid-sized sports coupé, following the success of the Ford Capri. It premiered in December 1998, based on the Mondeo, and equipped with the 2.0 L Zetec and 2.5 L Duratec engines. It was well received by reviewers, known for being a "driver's car", however, the car's cost and lack of a prestigious badge kept sales relatively low. In the US, the Cougar was branded as the Mercury Cougar, but unfortunately the car proved to have little success there as well, being discontinued in 2002. When the Mk.1 Mondeo was replaced, the European Cougar was no longer produced. The sales of the BMW 3-Series coupe later showed that there could have been a market for the 1999 Ford Cougar.
