Ford Escape 2003 posters

Ford Escape

The Ford Escape (Code U204) is a compact crossover SUV, sold by Ford Motor Company since 2001 and priced lower than the Ford Explorer. In Europe, it was marketed as the Ford Maverick. Created in partnership with Mazda - of which Ford holds a controlling stake - the Escape was released a few months after their closely similar Mazda Tribute. In 2005, a more polished version was produced under Mercury marque, the Mercury Mariner. It replaced the discontinued Bronco II since 1990, filling the gap for a compact SUV. The Ford Escape is based on the Ford CD2 platform, which in its turn is based on the Mazda GF platform, previously used by the Mazda 626. A hybrid version was introduced in 2004.
