Ford Escape

The Ford Escape (Code U204) is a compact crossover SUV that has been sold by Ford Motor Company since 2001 at a price point lower than that of the Ford Explorer. Across the ocean, it was also released as the Ford Maverick. This model was made possible due to joint development with Mazda (in which Ford has majority control). It arrived on the market just a few months after its nearly identical twin, the Mazda Tribute. In 2005, a more luxurious version, the Mercury Mariner, was introduced for Ford's Mercury marque. Since the discontinuation of the Bronco II in 1990, the Escape has filled the void for Ford's compact SUV. In 2004, a hybrid version of the Ford Escape was released. The Escape is constructed on the CD2 platform which is based on the Mazda GF platform, previously used by the Mazda 626. For the 2005 model year, the Escape and Tribute were given updates, including a new base engine (the 2.3 L Duratec 23), which replaced the Zetec 2.0L 127hp 4-cylinder engine. The most powerful engine available remained the powerful 200hp Duratec 3.0L V6, along with new engine mounts. Additionally, Ford included airbag and seatbelt safety systems, an intelligent all-wheel-drive system, and exterior updates. 2005 was also the first model year that the base four-cylinder models were offered with an automatic transmission, while the automatic shifter was moved from the column to the console for all models fitted with automatic gearboxes. Ford also removed the recline feature on the rear seats. 2005
