Revealing that an audience of compact car owners were in search of something stylish yet not too ostentatious or haughty, Ford's market research led them to work with Ford's Research and Engineering Center in Nanjing, taking advantage of their global expertise and knowledge of the Chinese scene.
"The Ford Escort gives drivers the identical aesthetic of high-end models, but without having to give up aspects like backseat capacity and convenience," commented Andrew Collinson, exterior design manager of Ford Asia Pacific. "By combining our know-how and local acumen, we came up with a seductive yet practical compact car that breaks the boundaries of what one might expect from this category."
Premium exterior, athletic proportions
The Ford Escort gained a globally-recognized design with its One Ford attributes, like an unique inverted trapezoidal grille perched at the front and front lights that emphasize the car's width.
