Ford Focus Sedan

The Ford Focus Sedan was a compact car manufactured by Ford between 1998 and 2007. Ford began selling the Focus in Europe in July 1998 and in North America for the 2000 model year. In Europe and South Africa, it replaced the various Ford Escort models, while in Asia and Australasia, it replaced the Ford Laser. Design and Engineering Designated CW170 during its development, and known to some Ford contractors as the Ford Fusion, the Ford Focus took its eventual name from a Ghia concept car unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1991. Several aspects of the design had been previewed earlier in prototypes used to showcase forthcoming safety features, such as the eye-level rear lighting clusters. Staying true to Ford's New Edge styling philosophy, first seen in the Ford Ka in 1996 and the Ford Cougar in 1998, the Focus' appearance has been described as polarizing. It was created under the supervision of Jack Telnack and executed by Claude Lobo and Australian designer John Doughty. The idea to dub the new car the Ford Focus was made in early 1998 before being delayed when a Cologne court, responding to a Burda Publishers’ case, ordered Ford to avoid the name "Focus" for German market models as it was already held by a magazine. Fortunately, the dispute was resolved and the car was officially launched.
