The all-new Mk 2 Ford Focus was unveiled in 2004. At the Paris Motor Show on September 23, 2004, it made its debut as a three and five-door hatchback and a station wagon. Before that, it had already been previewed as the four-door saloon model, the "Focus Concept", in the Beijing Motor Show in mid-2004. Design and engineering The Mark 2 Focus, codenamed C307, is based on the shared C1 platform, which also underpins several other car models such as the Volvo S40, V50, and C70, along with the Mazda3 and Focus C-MAX. Ford refers to this as the "Global Shared Technologies". Ford has retained the same suspension as the Mk 1 Focus, apart from making it 10 percent stronger. As for the body styles, customers can choose from three and five-door hatchbacks, station wagon, and a saloon which was released in mid-2005. The Mk 2 Focus is larger than its predecessor in all dimensions, boasting a 25mm (1in) wheelbase extension, 168mm (6.6in) extra in length, 8mm (0.3in) higher, and 138mm (5.4in) wider. Moreover, the interior and boot space has also increased. Apart from offering additional space, the Focus Mk 2 also includes a wealth of new technologies such as a KeyFree system, a solar-reflect windshield, adaptive front lighting, Bluetooth hands-free phones, and voice control for audio, phone and climate control systems. It also comes with a variety of transmission options including a Durashift 6-speed manual, Durashift 4-speed automatic, the new Durashift advanced manual, and the standard manual. As for the design language, the Mk 2 Focus displays the same styling cues seen in the Mondeo and the Fiesta. Despite the differences, stylish cues taken from the B-Proposal of the original Focus are still visible.
