Ford Freestyle 2005 posters

Ford Freestyle Limited

The Ford Freestyle (code name D219) is a crossover SUV/station wagon introduced for the 2005 model year. It competes with models like the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Nissan Murano, Mitsubishi Endeavor, Subaru Legacy and Outback, and even Ford's own Escape model. The Ford Freestyle's platform, known as the D3, is also shared with the Ford Five Hundred, Mercury Montego, and other Volvos such as the XC90. This vehicle, assembled in Chicago, Illinois, claims a market niche formally occupied by the Ford Country Squire, boasting the capacity for seven passengers in three rows of seating. The Freestyle, along with the Five Hundred and the Escape Hybrid, are the first American Ford vehicles to make use of a continuously variable transmission (CVT). To the company's pleasant surprise, roughly 55% of buyers chose the Haldex-equipped all-wheel drive model. Sales were initially below projections, but have since been on the rise. Although the Freestyle is similar in design to the Australian-exclusive Ford Territory, it is based on a different rear-wheel drive platform, the EA169, which is also shared by the Ford Falcon. Despite its infancy, the Freestyle was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award for 2005, though coming in second place behind the Escape Hybrid.
