Ford Freestyle Limited

The Ford Freestyle (code name D219) is a crossover SUV/station wagon that was first introduced for the 2005 model year. It was created mainly to compete with its mid-size rivals, such as the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Nissan Murano, and Mitsubishi Endeavor. The Freestyle also occupied the same space as Subaru Legacy and Outback models, as well as the previously produced Ford Taurus station wagon. This vehicle utilizes the Ford D3 platform, which it shares with the Ford Five Hundred, Mercury Montego, and several Volvos, including the XC90. The Freestyle is made in the Ford plant located in Chicago, Illinois. While sharing the same platform as the Volvo XC90, the two vehicles provide very different experiences. The Freestyle offers three rows of seating and can fit up to seven passengers, making it similar to vehicles like the Explorer and minivans. Ford has been using the letter “F” for passenger cars and minivans, such as the Focus, Freestar, Five Hundred, and Fusion, while Mercury uses "M". The Freestyle is notable for its standard continuous variable transmission (CVT) that’s shared with the Ford Escape Hybrid and the Five Hundred model. This model’s optional Haldex-equipped all-wheel drive was unexpected; nevertheless, it now accounts for over 50% of the model’s sales. Although overall sales for the Freestyle were initially below projected levels, they have been gradually increasing each month. It is possible to draw comparison between the Freestyle and the Ford Country Squire, but a conversion of the Freestyle to fake wood paneling is not available. Ford Territory crossover SUV, on the other hand, features an entirely different, rear-wheel drive EA169 platform, used by the Ford Falcon. The Ford Freestyle was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award for 2005 (second only to the Escape Hybrid).
