The Ford Kuga is the first venture into the crossover market for Ford of Europe and offers a unique combination of inviting on-road driving and remarkable off-road capability. This production model was inspired by the much-talked-about Ford iosis X Concept car, which made its debut at the 2006 Paris Motor Show. The CEO at the time, John Fleming, confirmed their intentions to bring a commercial vehicle influenced by the iosis X to market in under two years.
At the 2007 Frankfurt Show, Ford previewed their soon-to-be-released Ford Kuga, which symbolised the brand's hint at a different direction for its portfolio. John Fleming stated, "'With the new Ford Kuga we are keeping the promise we made at Paris in 2006, and delivering a highly capable, expressive and charismatic vehicle which will extend the Ford model range further." He also believed that the Ford Kuga would attract not only their loyal following but also new customers with added features such as a fashionable 'kinetic design' exterior, fantastic on-road vehicle dynamics and premium-like product quality.
