Ford Mondeo ST220 Estate

The Ford Mondeo second generation model debuted in October 2000 as a much larger vehicle compared to its predecessor. This Mondeo was the first to implement Ford's Prodigy concept car and was praised by critics for its more restrained and mature effect. Ford addressed the earlier model's lack of remaining legroom and uninviting diesel version with a longer wheelbase and Duratorq diesel engine. The car's chassis and suspension were identical to the previous generation, resulting in class-leading handling and ride quality. In Mexico, the Ford Mondeo replaced the Ford Contour from 2001 to 2007, when it was eventually taken over by the Ford Fusion with similar styling inside and out. To meet customers' expectations set by Volkswagen's standard-setting interior (B5) in 1996, Ford incorporated a more "Germanic" interior design to the Mondeo, which was of a higher quality due to the use of expensive materials. Trim levels were simplified to Lux, Zetec, Zetec S, Ghia, Ghia X, and ST, and a facelift in 2003 saw the new addition of Titanium and Titanium X trim levels to fit in between Zetec S and Ghia, and the top-of-the-line ST220 above the ST trim.
