Ford Mustang Shelby GT350

The 1965-1966 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350s are renowned for their small size and light weight. These models have also been referred to as "Cobras" due to their similarities with the Ford-powered AC-based two-seat sports car produced by Shelby American in the same time period. Both automobiles featured the Cobra emblem and shared a similar paint scheme and optional "Cobra" valve covers. An additional bonus for the 1965-1966 models is the K-Code 271 hp (202 kW; 275 PS) 289 cu in (4.7 L) engine which was modified to produce 306 hp (228 kW; 310 PS). This engine was referred to as the "Cobra hi-riser" in several marketing publications. The 1965 GT 350 was strictly designed for competition use as evidenced by the 34 "G.T. 350R" race-spec cars built for SCCA compliance. This design ushered in three consecutive years of B-Production champions. The 1966 GT 350 was a bit of a departure from the previous year's model, as it featured more comfort-oriented features like rear seats, additional colors, and the option of an automatic transmission. Subsequent models continued this trend of increasing comfort and luxury while decreasing its competitiveness. By 1969, Carroll Shelby had removed himself from the Shelby GT program and the design was then handled entirely in-house at Ford.
