Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 was redesigned for the 1969 model year, increasing in length by 4 inches (100 mm). This styling update was largely the work of Ford, with Carroll Shelby having little input. The 1969 GT500 was equipped with a 351 cubic-inch V8. Unfortunately, due to disagreements between Carroll Shelby and Ford, no new Shelby GT 350 and 500 models were produced for the 1970 model year. However, to meet the demand of customers, unsold 1969 models were given 1970 vehicle identification numbers under FBI supervision. The only two cosmetic changes on the 1970 versions of the Shelby GT500 were a front chin spoiler and two black hood stripes. The other modifications had to do with emissions control; the carburetor was modified and marked "ed" (edited) on tag, and the distributor was upgraded to the 1970 version. In total, 789 vehicles underwent this upgrade.
