Ford Mustang 1970 posters

Ford Mustang Milano Concept

In February 1970, Ford introduced an innovative Mustang concept car at the Chicago Auto Show, taking inspiration from grand touring cars around Milan, Italy. In terms of uniqueness, the ultra violet painted two-seat Mustang Milano was the most radical design seen to that point. Although the front of the car featured galloping pony badges and Mustang script, the 43-inch-tall concept had a near horizontal fastback roof and windshield at 67-degree angle. Further features included a trio of NACA-style ducts in the hood, an integrated spoiler at the tail and electrically-powered rear decklid. It featured an early application of cast-aluminum wheels with a laced design replicating wire wheels but offering greater strength. The car also had light purple leather seats with blue-violet cloth inserts and deep purple mohair carpeting, reflecting the style of 1970. While some details were used on the 1971 Mustang models, the concept also influenced other cars such as the Falcon XB coupe of the 1974 Australian market, famously seen in the Mad Max films.
