Ford Mustang 1972 posters

Ford Mustang Mach 1

The 1972 Mustang saw a few revisions to its exterior such as "Fasten Seat Belt" warning lamps on the right side dash panel and the option of tu-tone lower body paint with the Decor Group exterior trim package. A special commemorative Olympic Sprint Edition was available for a limited time between March and June of this year. It included white paint schemes with light blue accents and USA shield decals on the rear quarter panels. 50 Sprint convertibles were also made exclusively for the 1972 National Cherry Blossom Parade in Washington D.C. Due to tightening emissions regulations, the Boss 351 edition and optional 429 big block were dropped after 1971. This left the 351 cu in (5.8 L) variants as the largest available engines for 1972 (and 1973). At mid-year, Ford offered a slightly detuned Boss 351 engine, designated as the 351 HO. This engine came with a mandatory top loader 4 speed transmission, competition N case rear end, and air conditioning delete. Interestingly, the HO was the first Mustang to come with a full-time cold air induction system, routing cold air via a 2 piece plastic duct under the battery tray to the air cleaner snorkel. All 398 cars built with the R code motor were manufactured in Dearborn, MI.
