Ford Mustang 1974 posters

Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang has gone through many iterations since its introduction in 1964. After winning Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year honor in 1974, the Mustang II was released, focusing on a design that was more similar to the original Mustang. This car featured a 2.3 L SOHC I4 as the base engine and a 2.8 L V6 as the only optional engine; however, due to negative feedback, Ford reintroduced the popular V8 option in 1975, albeit in low-suds form with a two-barrel carburetor and 140 horsepower. In addition to this, the Mustang II was based on the Ford Pinto, though to a lesser extent than the original Mustang was based on the Falcon. Despite the Mustang II selling more than 400,000 units its first year, it lacked the charisma of its predecessor. Factors such as the Arab oil embargo and US emissions and safety standards also played a part in its lackluster success. However, in 1979, a totally new Mustang hit the streets under the direction of Ford's new styling chief, Jack Telnack.
