Ford Mustang

For 1979, the iconic Ford Mustang underwent a complete revamp. Its new iteration was larger and based on the "Fox" platform, and had a brand new interior that could comfortably seat four in smaller spaces. The 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine from the earlier model was retained but refined, and various other versions were also offered, including the turbocharged one that got fuel injection later in 1987. Available in greater numbers was the 200cid inline six, which was easier to service. The 3.8-liter (232 cid) "Essex" V6 was later offered but it was discontinued before 1997, and Ford brought it back again in the next generation of Mustangs in 1994. From 1980 to 1982, the 255cid V8 was also available, and the more powerful 302cid (5.0 liter) V8 was the major source of V8 power. The LX package was the fastest Mustang and the GT package, with its fender flares, spoilers, and body-side moldings, was often touted as such though it was heavier. A rare SVO Mustang was offered in 1984 and an "Indy 500" Pace Car edition was presented in 1979, spurring collectors into action and bringing higher prices for the cars. In 1987, the Mustang got its new styling featuring strong Aero looks, which echoed the SVO styling, and it was the longest-lasting platform for the Mustang.
