Ford Mustang 1980 posters

Ford Mustang

The 1979 Mustang was based on the larger Fox platform shared with the Ford Fairmont and Mercury Zephyr. Refined for a larger and more comfortable interior, the Mustang featured two bodystyles: coupe (notchback) and hatchback (fastback). Above the base model, only the Ghia trim level was available. The optional Cobra appearance package added visual appeal to the base model with black paint, stripes along the body moldings, a snake decal for the hood, and Cobra lettering. New options for the 1979 Mustang included power door locks, speed control, power windows, and tilt steering wheel. Under the hood, the standard engine was the 88 hp 2.3 L Pinto inline-four, which was joined by the 109 hp 2.8 L Cologne V6 (made by Ford of Germany); and the 140 hp 302 cu in (4.9 L) Windsor V8, marked as a 5.0 L. The supply of the 2.8 L V6 proved insufficient, leading to the introduction of the 85 hp 3.3 L straight-six. The pinnacle of 1979 Mustang performance was the 132 hp 2.3 L turbo four-cylinder engine, and the available TRX handling package included Michelin 390 mm tires and specific metric wheels.
