Ford Mustang 1982 posters

Ford Mustang

The 1979 model of the Ford Mustang presented dealerships with an all-new design and a much larger body frame. This "Fox platform" Mustang was a large deviation from the earlier compact variants, offering a redefined cabin design capable of seating up to four people despite its smaller size. The vehicle also came with a more spacious trunk area and a larger engine bay to make servicing easier. The engine choice ranged from a 2.3L four-cylinder to a 2.8L V6, as well as a turbo option occasionally. By 1987, fuel injection was added on the four-cylinder engine. Moreover, Ford's inline six was available and much more reliable, although the 3.8L "Essex" V6 was later offered but discontinued before 1987. Customers had the option to choose between a 302cid V8 and a 255cid one, although the former is more popular.

The Mustang II ushered in a higher performance level due to its LX package, as it was faster compared to the 1982 Camaro and cost less too. The car wheeled out a convertible in 1983 to keep up with the 1982 Chrysler convertibles, although the GT package is often billed as the fastest Mustang due to its flares, spoilers, and side moldings, though the LX variant is key to a higher performance. A rare SVO Mustang released in 1984 and the 1979 "Indy 500" pacing car edition carry higher prices than other editions. The 1987 Mustang got a touch of stylish revamping, taking its lead from the styling of the SVO, which gave the car a bit of an "Aero" look which blends in with Ford's general design direction.

The Mustang's platform has had the longest run, with this Mustang extending its history further.
