Ford Mustang 1987 posters

Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang underwent a major overhaul in 1979. Deviating from the smaller, compact models of the past, the new Mustangs were larger and based on the "Fox" platform. This allowed for a roomier interior that could comfortably seat up to four people, and a larger trunk and engine bay for added convenience. The 2.3 liter four cylinder from the earlier model continued, with additional versions that featured a turbo, as well as a fuel injection option after 1987. The 200cid inline six was a popular choice and easier to maintain, while the 3.8 liter (232 cid) "Essex" V6 was utilized until 1987. The landmark 5.0 liter (302cid) V8 was available from '80 to '82, offering the Mustang a fierce performance like no other during that time period. The Mustang II debuted in 1983, followed by the SVO Mustang in 1984 and an "Indy 500" pace car edition in 1979. In 1987, Mustangs underwent a redesign for a more “Aero” look, further paying homage to the SVO Mustang and ending the longest run on any platform in the Mustang's history.
