Ford Mustang

The 1987 Mustang received an upgrade with a new design inside and out. The outside had a more "Aero" look to go with Ford's overall styling while inside, there was a new dash, center console, seats and trim. GT models were equipped with round fog lamps, aerodynamic skirting and new 15-inch turbine-style wheels. The lineup was narrowed down to the LX and GT with the latter now having body-colored triple-sectioned louvered taillights. Rear quarter glass windows had a single large piece of glass with "Mustang" at the bottom rear corners. The 302 cu in (4.9 L) engine was added to the LX model hatchbacks and notchbacks. Slotted GT wheels became standard with the V8 option and those with the 4-cylinder received it as an option. The 2.3 L four-cylinder got fuel injection. V8-powered Mustangs had E7TE cylinder heads with forged aluminum pistons and valve reliefs for increased power to 225 hp (168 kW) and 300 ft·lbf (410 N·m) of torque. The T-top roof option was discontinued in 1988 and a mass air system replaced the speed density computer system in 1989, making modifications easier. A driver's side airbag was added in 1989 - 1990 models. Ford added a small passenger-side dashboard emblem in 1989 and 1990 to commemorate the Mustang's 25th anniversary.
