Ford Mustang 1994 posters

Ford Mustang GT

For 1994, the Mustang underwent its first major overhaul in 15 years. Ford gave it the codename "SN-95," and the new design, developed by Patrick Schiavone, had some visual elements that harkened back to earlier Mustangs and spurred their revival in popularity. The Mustang GT was equipped with the "5.0" 4.9 L V8 engine, which utilized the 5.0L Thunderbird intake manifold and a larger 60mm throttle body for 215 horsepower. The Mustang Cobra model had an even more powerful GT-40 equipped 5.0 L engine with 240 hp (179 kW). This Mustang Cobra convertible was the Pace Car for the Indianapolis 500 for the third time. In 1996, the Mustang GT's 5.0 L V8 engine was replaced with the 215 hp (160 kW) 4.6 L SOHC "Modular" V8. This had two valves per cylinder, and while it offered good torquey, it lacked engines power above 5,000 rpm. The Mustang Cobra had a 305 hp (227 kW) dual over head cam configuration of the 4.6 L V8, and its aluminum engine block was cast by Teksid of Italy. Meanwhile, the base 3.8 L V6 engine was increased to a 150 hp (112 kW) rating. Two years later, in 1998, power from the SOHC 4.6 L V8 was increased to 225 hp (168 kW). Also, this was the last year of the "Round Body Mustang." It was the only year to offer the "Sports" package, which came with a unique black stripe (regardless of car color) on the hood that extended over to the wheel wells.
